"Make your 'buts' big and juicy!" --Nikki Tores (warning, quotes may be fabricated or completely wrong)

I was really inspired by our talk with Nikki Tores today more than anything. I loved how she dared us to really make the audience leave understanding our play. That is always my biggest fear when performing a Shakespeare: will it connect? She allowed me to see that if we really listen to the text, the audience won't be able to help but do the same.

Friday cast had our turn at blocking today. Now, I am probably my biggest critic when it comes to acting, so I didn't think it went too well. It wasn't that I was missing entrances or lines, but I wasn't getting into the flow, which I'd felt a little better when we first read. However, it was probably due to the cumbersome nature of carrying a binder around while reciting paragraphs of rhyming verse while trying to get blocking that I'd written in a handwriting that probably only made sense to me yesterday. *sigh* Oh, the many trials of an actor. :) Hopefully, I'll memorize my lines shortly and be able to get a better feel for character. Until then, strong acting choices will probably have to come subordinate to knowing what the heck I'm supposed to do on stage.

The question game was hysterical, and I now have a new monster to haunt me in my dreams: her name is Courtney Pisano. I can't wait to see what tomorrow holds! Everyone loves Fridays!

  1. Dylan, I totaly understand where you are coming from with being your own biggest critic. I was pretty dissapointed with myself today. But don't worry, once the scripts go, we will kick it into high gear.
